This St. Jude Medical's Angio-Seal vascular closure device seals femoral artery punctures following catheterization procedures. The device creates a percutaneous seal by sandwiching the arteriotomy between a bio-absorbable anchor and a collagen sponge, which dissolve within 60 to 90 days. By achieving hemostasis more quickly than conventional hand-pressure hemostasis techniques, the device allows early ambulation and hospital discharge and mitigates patient discomfort.
