Dr. Yoichiro Hongo graduated from Yokohama City University School of Medicine in 1988. After 5 years of clinical training in internal medicine, emergency medicine and cardiology, he worked at the National Cardiovascular Center in Japan for 3 years as a clinical resident, where he learned about IVUS under the guidance of Dr. Masakazu Yamagishi. After 5 years of experience as an emergency and interventional cardiologist, he was selected as the 4th Stanford - St. Jude Medical Scholarship Program recipient in 2001. His main research interests include the development of new coronary diagnostic/therapeutic devices and the investigation of mechanisms involved in coronary artery disease progression.
