Dr. Takao Shimohama

Dr. Takao Shimohama graduated from Kitasato University School of Medicine in 1996. After completing the residency program of the Department of Internal Medicine at Kitasato University Hospital, he entered Kitasato University Graduate School of Medicine to research on coronary artery disease. In 2002, he was awarded the Doctor of Medical Science for his graduation thesis on the changes of Na+/H+exchanger 1 mRNA and protein using myocardial infarction rat. During this period, he also learned skills of PCI and IVUS, followed by additional 4-year-experience as an interventional cardiologist at the Shimizu Kousei Hospital and the Cardiovascular Center in Kitasato University Hospital. In 2006, he was selected as a 9th recipient of the Stanford-Getz Brothers Scholarship Program, and his main research interests are the mechanisms of in-stent restenosis and plaque characterization by IVUS imaging.
